Many cruisers who prefer sailing holidays have already had the experience of dinghies for instance, and they are eager to adapt to bigger boats such as yachts or charters. The advantage of such a change is the fact that you’ll no longer have to worry about everything on board such as maintenance, sailing and anchoring. The background is different, and since you’re on holiday, make the best of it from one end to the other. And last but not least there is also the possibility to book a whole-boat and enjoy the privacy of the cruise without having to share it with other people. The crew members are very discreet and you can relax and have fun in peace.

Sailing yachts is comfortable for anyone as there is usually a crew for each such boat, and you can be totally unaware of the maintenance issues of the vessel or you could get actively involved. This all depends on personal preferences and on the kind of activities you expect to enjoy aboard. Internet sites and travel agencies are the right places to search for sailing yachts vacations, with the mention that a third option here would be the hiring of a broker. Brokers are usually familiar with all sorts of yacht charters, they also have good information and knowledge of the companies that operate them, and are very competent at suggesting one holiday choice or another.

The life jacket must never be overlooked; check its condition together with the other safety gears before leaving the shore. The location of the life jacket must be somewhere very close within reach, and on bad weather conditions it should be worn permanently when on deck. The sailing gloves are one other sailing clothing item that deserves all the attention; the design is very special so as to protect the hands when handling the ropes and hoisting the sails. Their resistance to harsh weather conditions, tearing and over-wear is also of paramount importance. They will surely cost more than any other regular pair of gloves, but the money is worth paying.

Part of the booking procedure for the sailing vacations involves receiving a special confirmation package that you need to have with you in order to present it at the check in points of the sailing charter. Even when you book a boat for a more complex itinerary that includes several different destinations, make sure to pass the documents around together with the crew list in order for things to go smoothly. Most other travel tips you’d find online cover the main aspects of sailing vacations: clothes, sunscreen lotions, day packs to keep money and documents as well as the personal first-aid kit. Include these items on the to-do-list when preparing the details of sailing vacations.

There are lots of schools offering sailing lessons, how can one know which to choose? The crucial element for the appreciation of the sailing lessons quality is the time extent you spend on water. Teaching should be a constant natural process aboard a ship, meaning that every maneuver during sailing makes an opportunity for a trainee to learn something new. Sailing lessons must focus on drills preparing the would-be sailors for more unusual circumstances when the lack of experience has to be compensated for by the superiority of skills. Be prepared for anything! This should be the motto of schools teaching sailing lessons.

Land sailing is the sport practiced in a wheeled vehicle that is powered not by an engine but by the wind, by means of a sail. Both recreational and practical in functionality, land sailing has been practiced as a sport since the 50s; it is also known under the name of sand or land yachting, while the vehicle is called sail wagon or land yacht. This vehicle is normally three-wheeled, following the same concept of the sailboat, and the sailor/pilot sits or lies, changing position with the help of pedals and hand levers. What are the best locations to practice land sailing?

Hiking in California during certain times of the year is so fabulous that you will want to go all the time. You may want to take a weekend or maybe a whole week to see the different places to go. There is hiking available around rivers, glaciers, deserts, the coastline and in the grasslands. Take your pick.

Mount Tallac offers you a 9.4 mile round trip hike at an elevation reaching 9.735 ft. The gain on this hike is 3.255 ft so make sure you have lots of water, good shoes and are in good condition for this hike. As probably on of the best trails in the Lake Tahoe region you will enjoy the stunning views from the summit. Even with the best camera you probably won’t be able to capture the beauty that your eyes will see and memories will retain. With both wooded areas and mountainous areas the hike gives you the diversity you are probably looking for. You will pass two lakes on this hike. The switchbacks are a steep climb taking you up to the summit which will be very hot, so be ready.

If you choose to hike Upper Yosemite Falls you will be on a 7.2 mile round trip hike with an elevation at the summit of 6,526 ft and an elevation gain of 2,700 ft. This hike is best if done from May to July because the waterfall is at its full force during this time and the view is beautiful. This hike will take you through a section of switchbacks through the forest and then you will enter the flat area of the trial with your first view of the falls. The mist from the falls will be heavy as you get closer and then you will encounter another set of switchbacks before the summit. These are very steep and the most difficult area to climb so be prepared to work hard here.

Enter the wonders of the desert with the heat and lack of water on the hike in Mosiac Canyon. Although the trail is just 2.5 miles round trip you will think you went further due to the climate conditions. After all, this is the hottest place in the US so it’s a challenge. Bring plenty of water to rehydrate yourself on this hike, you’ll need it. You might see some desert wildlife as you view the stunning designs nature created on the formations of the canyon walls.

Back to the mountains and this time it’s the really high hike. Prepare for Mt. Shasta, the most challenging trail in California. The trial is 12 miles round trip and the summit is 14,179 ft with an elevation gain of 7,259 ft. You will work on this trail to see the beauty. The time to plan this hike is from May to mid July due to the unpredictable weather in the spring and the lava rocks and rolling boulders that come crashing down the mountain after the snow melt in the summer. Not only is this more than a hike, you will have issues with altitude sicknes if you are not careful so make sure you go with a partner for safety and practical reasons. Read all you can about this hike before you begin, it’s not one for the faint of heart.

Mt. Shasta offers you a different type of hike. You will want to bring your sunscreen, sunglasses, an ice axe and shelter. Since you won’t have much warning if the weather is going to turn on you take the shelter to offer protection when, and if, you need it. Bring along your crampons, helmet, summit pass, and winter boots and wear extra layers of cloths, and again, plenty of water. Don’t plan on drinking snow melt around Helen’s Lake since it is contaminated by human and animal urine…yummy!

The 16 mile round trip hike of Half Dome has an elevation gain of 4,800 ft. It reaches the summit of 8,842 ft. This hike is best between late May and early October. It is a difficult hike which brings people from all around the world to Yosemite National Park. If you aren’t in excellent physical shape with lots of hiking and climbing experience behind you don’t attempt this climb. The switchbacks are rocky and many ankles are injured here so be super careful. When you reach Nevada Falls you are at the halfway point of the climb. Here you should take the time to assess your strengths and skills to see if you are prepared to continue on. The climb gets tougher so be ready. Not only is the climb tough but the altitude change will require some adjustment of your body so give it a little while. Rest, and then go on. The continuation is very steep, excruciatingly long to reach the back of Half Dome rock. Your body is continually assaulted on the switchbacks during this phase. The Half Dome cables will fill you with shock and fear, they should! Now, assess your ability to continue on and if you are sure you are willing, the success of the climb will give you stunning views of Yosemite Valley below. This hike is only for those that are in good, if not superior, physical condition. If you aren’t then don’t do this one. There are many other trails that will better fit your ability.

by Brooklyn Sterritt

Our recent Caribbean cruise on Crown Princess ship with our 10 month old daughter was fantastic. We enjoyed it so much that we are starting to plan for another cruise in about a year.

There is some planning to be done beforehand, but the planning is well worth the effort. There are many things that you will need for your baby on the cruise vacation. Here is our list of the top 10 must things to have on a cruise vacation with a young baby.

1. The most valuable thing that we took with us was our stroller. Our daughter loves being in the stroller and it was also great that our stroller folds - that way it was easy to take on an airplane, and it didn’t take up much room in our cabin on the cruise ship. We used the stroller all the time. Every morning we walked our daughter on the promenade deck; we used the stroller every day to go to the ship’s pools and dining rooms; we even used in the evening so that we can all enjoy the exciting evenings on board. Every evening after dinner we bathed our daughter, then put her in pyjamas, and then placed her back into her stroller. We then walked the ship with her, went to some clubs on the ship with her and before long she would fall fast asleep.

2. Make sure that you have enough diapers for your baby during the vacation - but don’t bring them from home. First figure out before you leave how many diapers your child go through in a normal day - and then multiply that number by the number of days on your vacation. If your vacation involves air travel (like ours did) you won’t want to have to bring the diapers from home - if you do that means that they will have to be checked as checked baggage. Instead, do what we did. Our ship cruised out of Fort Lauderdale in Florida. We had time from when our flight arrived in Florida to when we had to be on the ship. So from the airport we took a cab to a nearby Target store and purchased the diapers that we needed for the cruise and some other baby supplies before getting another taxi to the ship.

3. One thing to do on a cruise ship - especially when it is hot is to go to the kiddies pool with your child and cool off in the pool. In order for your child to go into the pool they have to wear swim diapers or they have to be toilet-trained.

4. Our baby is on formula so we brought on board with us enough formula for the cruise. We opted to bring powdered formula since it is less bulky than formula that is already mixed. Again, we didn’t bring it from home, we purchased the required formula in Florida when we bought our diapers. Keep in mind that any formula entering the ship must be sealed & in the original container.

5. We wanted to make it easy and safe to make our baby’s bottles so we took a kettle (with a thermostat controlled shut-off) with us so that we could boil water and know that the water was safe to mix with the powdered formula.

6. Baby’s food is obviously very important. We brought a formula dispenser with us. We did this so that we could fill several bottles with clean water and when it was time for a bottle for our daughter we just had to pour the pre-measured formula into the water and give the bottle a shake.

7. When you check into your room on the ship let your room steward know that you will have some smelly diapers - he will come to your room more often to remove them. You can also help to control odours in your cabin by bringing with you scented bags for putting the dirty diapers (they can be purchased at a dollar store or Babies r Us). The bags were also useful on our air flight.

8. You’ll need soap for bathing your baby. Eventhough most ship cabins won’t have a tub for bathing your child - you can still do what we did. We plugged the drain on the shower and put enough water in the shower in order to give our baby her bath.

9. Sun Cabana - if your cruise is taking you to a warm climate like the Caribbean purchase a very lightweight sun cabana before your trip. You can use it when you visit the beach during the cruise. Keeps baby comfortable and protected from the sun. If you rent a cabana on the beach it will cost about $80 to $100.

10. Zip lock bags - these are great for everything - snack holders, put really dirty/soiled clothes away until you get home. Use for things that leak - (ex. medicine). Use the bags on the ship to pack bibs, spoons to go for dinner so when they are dirty you can throw in the bag & clean when you get back to your room.

There are more items to consider - but these are the top ten items that you can’t leave home without.

Catamaran sailing is not something you can learn on the regular sailing programs, this is so because most navigation practice is carried out on monohulls. The reason for such measures is the higher difficulty to operated multihulls as it is the case with the catamaran. Sailing experience combined with personal enthusiasm will eventually help one sail a catamaran, and enjoy the stability, the speed and the challenge of such a boat.

What elements are there to consider for one ready to invest in sailing gear? First of all, gloves and special foot wear like dinghy boots for instance, are first on the list. Then, there is the life jacket and the foul weather sailing gear. The latter includes both pants and jacket that keep off humidity. And last but not least, there are the wet and dry suits that should not miss from the sailor’s wardrobe; they keep you warm even in water or on very cold weather.

The most common mistake people make on their first sailing vacations is to pack way too much. Casual is the word to describe life on an island, so you won’t be needing fancy clothes and all sorts of gadgets. Sailing vessels impose restrictions in terms of storage space, and hard-sided luggage are surely not a good idea to take with you. Go for canvas or duffel bags that can be folded into occupying less room. Small baggage that can be taken with you on the plane also save you the trouble of having to deal with lost luggage when you arrive on the island.

Widely spread in the entire Oceania and Polynesia, catamaran sailing had greatly influenced the design of leisure boats with multiple hulls. The power engine represents the alternative to wind and water current power in catamaran propelling, but the true feeling of the sea is achieved by knowing the winds and decoding the message of the waves.

There are several types of sand yachts used for land sailing, and according to their distinct features, such vehicles compete in different classes. Thus, the largest yachts in land sailing competitions are known as Class 2. They all have very large masts with big sails that lend significant power to the vehicles; yet, the size could be an impediment to reaching high speed. More popular than Class 2 is Class 3 that is very similar in design, but on a smaller scale. Designed according to high-tech principles, such yachts make land sailing really fast. Usually made of fiberglass, Kevlar and carbon fiber, these vehicles will get a 60miles per hours during a race.

For years, tourists have been enjoying northwest Australia’s Kimberley Region, as well as the almost a thousand islands just off the coast. They offer secluded beaches, beautiful bays, mangroves and rainforests, and they’re best seen by boat.

This is why a cruise in this area is an excellent choice, with options available for interests from beach combing, birdwatching and photography to hiking and fishing. Take a longer trip to enjoy swimming in waters filled with beautiful wildlife and some island exploration, too.

See whales, sharks, birds and saltwater crocodiles from a distance, check out Strickland Bay’s amazing eroded rocks, Hidden Island’s fantastic pure white beach, and Kooland Island’s iron mine.

You’ll also have the chance to see Aboriginal art, waterfalls and pearl farms and to collect oysters or fish near the coral reef. Some cruises offer the day’s catch as a meal choice to anglers.

Check out the Horizontal Falls at Talbot Bay - a real horizontal waterfall that’s caused by the way the tide goes through a passage in the cliffs. The gap is so narrow that the water builds up faster on one side than it can pass through, making a difference of four to six meters in the water level, and causing a waterfall to flow between the bays.

Described as one of the world’s greatest natural wonders, these falls should be seen under safe circumstances, such as a cruise. Rough and extreme water conditions in this part of the world have caused many fatalities over the years among sailors and pearl divers.

The good news is that if you’re with a company that knows its stuff, you’ll be completely safe, with boats passing through the waterfall for a thrill. Of course, if you’d like to see the falls and stay dry, you can do it from above in a seaplane or helicopter.

If you want to get the most time on the islands, look for a cruise that does most of its distance traveling at night. Check out what you’ll get on the tour, too - items like fishing and snorkeling gear or all your snacks and meals are sometimes provided, and sometimes cost extra.

The right clothing is vital to an Australian adventure cruise - bring light weight clothes to stay cool, a wide hat and good shoes for walking that will survive getting wet. Add in insect repellent, sunscreen, and don’t forget the camera.

Most tours happen during the dry season, between April and November, but some also occur during Australia’s wet season, since there are lots of places to shelter in rough weather. Pick your cruise according to what you want to see and how exciting you want the weather to be.

Kimberley adventure cruises are a great choice for anyone who’s looking for fun. Pick a cruise that lasts long enough to let you see it all, and get all cruise details before you leave, so you’ll have a great time.

If you’re in search of the perfect “getaway”, without having to worry about the big cost of actually getting too far away, there are a host of Toronto dinner cruise options that may be just the type of thing you are looking for, without the big strain a normal vacation would put on your wallet.

The City Itself

Toronto is one of the most visually stunning and culturally diverse places in North America. When you examine all that the wonderful city of Toronto has to offer, it will make perfect sense that a visit to the city capped off with an incredible Toronto harbor cruise could make for the best vacation, regardless of where you are coming from or what your idea of a perfect vacation is.

With a wide array of five star hotels, incredible attractions, fine dining establishments, museums and endless shopping, you’ll have more than enough excitement to fill a week vacation. In fact, after spending a single week inside Toronto’s city limits, you may very well be ready to book your next vacation to see some of the wonderful sights that you just couldn’t fit into one seven day period.

Endless Variety

There are a number of different harbor cruise companies in Toronto, each offering a seemingly endless variety of different options when it comes to cruising.

Depending upon the time of year that you are traveling, you could book one of the fantastic holiday cruise options - the Christmas cruises and New Years Eve cruises in Toronto harbor are absolutely unforgettable ways to spend part of your holiday season. There are also wildly entertaining Halloween cruises and a very impressive fireworks show aboard the Independence Day cruise.

You certainly won’t be limited to traveling during the holiday season in order to experience the diversity and excitement of a Toronto harbor cruise. All year long, various cruise lines offer incredible, romantic dinner cruises with amazing food, drinks, amazing entertainment and music.

Corporate outings are also a specialty of many of the Toronto harbor cruise companies. You’ve taken, or been taking on corporate golf outings - where you spent the entire day chasing a little white ball around hundreds of yards of grass in the blazing sun, giving your best effort to not keel over from heat stroke. You end up sweating through two shirts and practically falling asleep in the car on the way home. With a Toronto cruise harbor event, you and your clients will have the time of your lives in any number of different cruise themes - you can relax and have drinks, then hit the blackjack table on the casino cruise; or lay back in a lounge chair next to your biggest client talking business over Mai-Tai’s on the tropical themed cruise. That’s exactly the type of experience you want your clients to walk away from a meeting thinking about.

The Cost of it All

Vacations and travel in general for that matter, can be extremely costly regardless of where you go. While on vacation, we want to be able to experience absolutely everything that we can. Unfortunately for most of us, it’s just not possible to travel the world and to see all of the things that we want to see.

Luckily, for those of us that don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars in disposable income, Toronto is also known as the “World within a City” because of everything it has to offer. You’ll be able to book a vacation to Toronto for a fraction of what it would cost to visit Europe, you’ll be able to experience the cultural diversity of nations from all over the world and you’ll be able to cap it all off with an incredible evening - maybe a Christmas Cruises.

Remember when you could count on working and retiring for one company. It was as simple as putting in your 25 to 30 years, collecting your hard-earned pension, and retiring to the sunshine state of your choice. Those days have faded and those companies don’t exist anymore. This leaves many turning their back on the traditional workforce and starting their own businesses. One of the most popular of these is to become a travel agent.

Why Becoming a Travel Agent Can Be the Perfect Career for You

Ease of Training: To become a travel agent requires training. But, you don’t have to schlep to a classroom. You can train to become a travel agent from the comfort of your home. Most training is offered via video, which can be viewed right from your computer. It’s as easy as logging on to get started.

Success Plan: Many work-from-home businesses offer little beyond course materials to ensure your success. When you choose to become a travel agent, if you select the right company to partner with, they offer success plans. What are these?

They do this by offering much-needed marketing assistance, ie, helping you to generate those initial leads to get the money pouring in, and introducing you to industry suppliers. All of these help you to get your business off the ground, practically ensuring your success.

Work at Home: This is perhaps the most attractive factor of this career opportunity. After all, who doesn’t want to work from the comfort of home? When you become a travel agent and work from home, you save in a number of ways, eg, on commuting, wardrobe and eating out, to name a few.

Unlimited Income Potential: What you make when you decide to become a travel agent is entirely up to you. How’s that for job security!

As commission structures vary depending on which company you sign on with, before you make the choice to become a travel agent with an agency, review this part of their offering carefully. For, it can literally be the difference between continuing to work from the comfort of home, or having to go back to a full-time job.

The Showboat Branson Belle will show you the fabulous Ozark Mountains and the beautiful Table Rock Lake on this relaxing cruise. Enjoy the view while you watch excellent shows and discover our excellent chef.

Everyone will be entertained by the talented production company of Showstoppers. This exciting cast provides some of the most exciting and talented live show performers available.

A favorite performer on the Showboat is Todd Oliver. Todd is a ventriloquist and comedian with some hilarious characters. Todd has appeared on some excellent TV shows including Walker Texas Ranger, The Howie Mandel Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Penn & Teller Las Vegas Spectacular.

Your loved ones deserve the best for that special occasion. Show them how much you care by giving them the experience they won’t soon forget. The Branson Belle can set the stage. Join us for our next cruise.

Many people asked,”How big is the river boat? Can I bring a large group?” The riverboat has three levels or decks. The theater and dining area has three levels that have excellent news of the stage. The lowest level or bottom deck is where the engine room and kitchen are located. The very top of the ship has one exterior deck where the wheelhouse is located. This is 78 feet wide and 265 feet long of pure fun.

The riverboat will come at you three ways to provide an excellent trip. The first is the views. The riverboat itself is a step back in time with it’s magestic towers and beautiful decks. Then they show you the gorgeous mountains and exciting waters of the lake. Next comes the hilarious shows and performers. Then they bring out the food that makes the trip unforgettable.

The showboat also provides medical and special needs to passengers. If you or your family has special needs for medical attention during the cruise theire is an EMT on board all cruises.

The showboat offers wheelchair service from your vehicle to your table. All bathrooms and attractions are available to individuals with custom needs.

For most of us the opportunity to take a “vacation” comes once a year or even twice. You pack your family and the dog into Ye Olde Faithful and do the routine run to Des Moines or Wichita or Whatever! The destinations may differ from year to year, but the “vacation” comes with the standard features: motels all booked up, Junior realizes he wanted to go to summer camp after all, Baby’s got the runs, and Suzie is crying over her first pimple! But sometimes, grudgingly rare sometimes, you want something special, really special. You got the directorship over Bill Grady, or maybe Helena has come back to you. Whatever the reason, you don’t want to take a “vacation”. You want a vacation, the genuine article, the real thing! OK, this is when you listen to that little voice in your head whispering with all the force of a Chinese-made 2 billion watt PMPO handheld MP3 player: “Cruise! Cruise!” You decide it can’t be Tom, so you book yourself and the family (Ruff can stay with Mrs. Doherty) onto a fabulous magical vacation aboard the cruise ship “Mirabile Dictu”. You don’t know what it means but you also know that the father-in-law won’t either!

The fare is all-inclusive and you don’t have to pay any other vacation-related charge while on board. There are two reasonable exceptions: the drinks you consume on board and extra excursions that you make when the ship docks at a port. Apart from these two exceptions, all your meals, entertainment and many other activities all come in the price of the ticket. This is a big relief for many tourists who don’t like unexpected expenses while vacationing.

The cruise ship is a luxury liner with every facility on board for your enjoyment. The rooms are all well-appointed, with extremely courteous and efficient room-service. There is a party atmosphere on most of these cruises because that is what you want, don’t you? Merriment, relaxation, recreation, rest, entertainment and a feeling of having left it all behind (your troubles, that is). The scenic beauty of the balmy ocean, the fantastic breeze playing through your hair, and the thought of Bill Grady doing the annual reports makes it feel a little bit like heaven.

R & R! Aah, you don’t need to have that expanded when you’re on board the “Mirabile Dictu”! It’s all around you. Theme pools, theme lounges, theme restaurants… everything is specially designed to give you the experience of a lifetime. There are onboard facilities to take care of you, like a first class spa with trained massage therapists, a beauty salon where Helena can get a face pack, a gym for your personal “Battle Of The Bulge”, the works. The cruise ship engages big name stars to provide you with entertainment shows every evening. If you want to trip the light fantastic, you can drop into the ballroom with a live band in attendance. In short, it’s a dream come true!

One of the big hassles of vacationing is the problem of catering for very young children (bless them!). Anyway, on a cruise ship you will find babysitting services, special camps, teen clubs for your children to amuse themselves safely, under supervision while you and your spouse and the older children find your own form of entertainment. It’s an ideal situation!

Let’s talk money. You’ll be pleasantly surprised that contrary to general opinion, these cruises do not require you to have an oil well in Texas to afford one! The cruise operators design the whole cruise in a very professional manner, taking the advice of financial and business experts. So they have “packages” or “plans” which are designed to suit every budget. The packages vary in two different aspects: tour duration, and accommodation. A three-day cruise will be appreciably cheaper than a fortnighter. Similarly, an interior room will be less expensive than a stateroom. Just to put things in perspective, a ’small’ room on one of these cruise ships is as large as a large hotel room, so you’re not exactly going to get cramps in that ’small’ room!

So whether it’s just the two of you, or whether it’s the whole family, a cruise on a luxury cruise liner is going to be an experience that will last you a lifetime! So come on! Put your name down for the “Hawaiian Holiday” cruise and you’ll come back wearing a smile and a lei!

The days of working for one company for 25-30 years, collecting a pension, and retiring in comfort are gone. That’s the new reality of a new economy. This leaves many shunning the traditional workforce and pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams. One of the most popular choices is to become a travel agent.

Jumpstart Your Success: Many work-from-home businesses require you to learn everything yourself. When you choose to become a travel agent, if you select the right company they will jumpstart your success for you.

They do this by offering much-needed marketing assistance, ie, helping you to generate those initial leads to get the money pouring in, and introducing you to industry suppliers. All of these help you to get your business off the ground, practically ensuring your success.

Work-from-Home: This is probably the number one reason so many are attracted to the idea of this career opportunity. When you choose to become a travel agent, you choose to be your own boss. You’ll be the boss who always has a corner office, because it’s right down the hall. Working from home as a travel agent saves you on commuting costs, wardrobe, eating out and a myriad of other expenses related to working outside the home.
